2023 : Höstkonferens med Dickon Bevington

Svenskt Forum för Mentaliserings höstkonferens sker fredag 6 oktober kl 13-16 i lokalen Pärlan på Albanovägen 30 (Stockholms universitet, Campus Albano) samt med videolänk på Zoom.

Detta följs av föreningens årsstämma kl 16-17. På höstkonferensen kommer Dickon Bevington att tala om “The Mentalizing Stance: transdiagnostic, transferrable, and transformative of therapeutic work”.

"Mentalizing is a new word for an old idea, dating back at least to Socrates, but its recent adoption in therapy and other forms of social helping is no accident. Purposefully integrative (as a theoretical framework for making sense of how humans make sense of each other, and why this matters) it speaks to workers of multiple persuasions; from psychoanalysts to neuroscientists, systemic and cognitive-behavioural therapists, social-ecologists etc. Relevant to the alarming “treatment gap” (between the prevalence of mental health disorders and the availability of effective treatments and other solutions) experience shows that mentalization can be taught easily enough not only to therapists, but also many other professionals and non-professional. So, there is a ‘democratizing’ strand to mentalizing, and one that finds a fit with the shift in treatment development from highly disorder-specific treatments, towards recognition of the ‘common factors’ of effective help and transdiagnostic approaches. After defining mentalizing in this context, Dr Bevington will describe key features of a mentalizing stance, as well as how mentalizing is a function of social capital and human networks as much as it is the result of individual mental effort or skill. He will show how its use can be transformative, especially with patients whose needs are multiple and intersecting and who present with significant risk, but whose relationship to conventional helping systems is generally poor."

Dickon Bevington är barn- och ungdomspsykiater vid Anna Freud Centre och leder också en uppsökande verksamhet för ungdomar med komplex problematik och missbruk i Cambridgeshire/Peterborough. Han är en ledande gestalt inom mentaliseringsbaserat för ungdomar och skapare av den innovativa metoden AMBIT (Adolescent Mentalization-Based Integrative Treatment). Han är känd som en mycket entusiasmerande föreläsare. Han är medförfattare till ett antal uppskattade böcker, bland annat första boken om AMBIT från 2017 och den utmärkta nya boken ”Mentalizing in Psychotherapy: a guide for practitioners” (2022), samförfattad med Carla Sharp.
